Ardee Craft Fair!

On Mayday, MQ and Auntie Janine took the madness that is Sockedelic on the road and hit Ardee Craft Fair in Co Louth! We had a great day out, met some very lovely folks, and sent some more sockosimians and sockage dogs off to new homes...oh, and raised a few quid more for our Orangutan pals too! Satsuma was dressed in his finest Ape Activist costume, and was handing out flyers and boisterously kiss squeaking to raise awareness of the Orang's plight!

Sockedelic's next appearance will be at the Children's Market, Waterworks Park, Belfast on 22nd May, so if you fancy getting your paws on your very own Sockedelic creation, join us there!

You can also now keep up to date with Sockedelic on Facebook and Twitter, just smack the buttons in the side bar to link straight through!!

Victoria cakes and belly aches!!

With Monkey King's birthday fast approaching and a distinct lack of palm oil free goodies in the shops, Monkey Queen is planning a homemade cake surprise for the big day! This was a perfect excuse for MQ to put aside the sockosimian creations, and indulge her other great love, creating naughty treats! Well, for something as special as a Sanctuary birthday, you can't just leave things to chance, so MQ dusted off her, erm, internet search thingy, and in 3 key strokes had found the perfect Vicky Sponge cake recipe (cheers James Martin!).... just under an hour later, the kitchen smelled delicious and a yummy cake was ready.

However, she had forgotten one essential thing....NEVER, EVER leave unguarded cake near a monkey, and definitely do not go off to bed expecting any cake to be left next day!

MQ awoke this morning looking forward to a Sunday afternoon cup of coffee and slice of tasty cake, only to stumble on this scene of devastation in the kitchen...3 naughty jam and buttercream smeared monkeys and one Orang all with very sore bellies!

Looks like this lot will be spending the rest of the day lolling around on the sofa in a post treat binge haze, and suffering a massive sugar comedown!

Double trouble at the Monkey Sanctuary !

The Monkey Sanctuary has recently witnessed a very unusual event, the arrival of two sets of twins! Firstly, meet Henry and Harry our naughty Amazonian Rainbow sock monkey twins. This pair get up to all kinds of tricks, and it is nearly impossible to tell them apart! However they are only tempoary residents, Henry has already found a new home, and Harry may be leaving us soon. MQ and Auntie Janine are busy preparing the sockosimians for the latest phase of world domination. Sockedelic's next outing will be Ardee County Craft Fair (Co Louth) on Monday 3rd May, and Harry is hoping to find a new family to play his tricks on!

This pair of Lovecraftian horrors arrived at the Sanctuary separately. Sockthulhu No1 appeared mysteriously last August and has been lurking malevolently on Monkey King's CD shelves ever since, casting his evil presence over his domain. We believe that Sockthulhu No2 has been successfully re-homed, he vanished into the night about a week ago, and we have not seen him since.

Sockedelic loves this lil guy!

Just found this on the BOS Twitter feed, and had to share! If you can, please donate to this very worthwhile cause so that tiny little ones like Wigly can grow up to be magnificent dreadlocked red apes, free to roam in the forests of Borneo again!

Sockosimians rule the world...phase 2

We had a great day out at Belmont Tower fair on Saturday, we sent lots of new monkeys and monsters out into the world to create mayhem, and raised a few quid more for our Orangutan friends too! Here is the very lovely Auntie Janine showing off the new Sockedelic range!

Sockedelic's order book is slowly beginning to fill up, thanks mainly to Monkey King's "Pimp a Chimp" day on Friday

The Sanctuary will be ringing with hollers of "oh **** I've just stuck a needle in my finger!!!" or "can you take me to A&E, I've sat on my scissors!" for months to come I'm sure, LOL....luckily I make an excellent Nurse Monkey...now, where did I leave my thermometer??

PS Can you spot me & Satsuma hiding out among the socky softies?

The Aped Crusader's update...

All of us simians at the sanctuary have been watching with great interest the whole Nestle debacle, and are pleased to see there are so many like minded souls out there striving to help our Orangutan brothers. The Monkey Sanctuary has been striving to be palm oil free for some time now, with a great deal of success. I, and Satsuma, think it is time everyone asked themselves "Is a (not very nice) chocolate bar REALLY worth it???" ... It's up to you....

Check out Greenpeace for more info (but I warn you, the video makes for very uncomfortable watching!!) and join the campaign to Give the Orangutan a Break!

The Aped Crusader...

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Why no, it is the mysterious Ape Activist come to save the simian world and spread news of Orangutans and endangered primates!

Monkey Queen needed a distraction from crafting sockosimians, and Satsuma "gently reminded" her that as a SpokesOrang, he deserved a suitable costume to reflect his status...well he actually kiss-squeaked MQ into submission, that Satsuma has a loud lip-smack let me tell you! MQ thought the green would bring out the beautiful copper shades in Satsuma's lush fur, and the red mask certainly complements his brown eyes...all us lady simian softies in the Monkey Sanctuary think he looks hot, hot, hot!!
